The Ordovician Retroarc Foreland Basin on the Yangtze Block Linked to the Final Assemblage of Gondwana

Abstract Amalgamation of the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks in context Gondwana assembly early Paleozoic has been addressed for decades, but far-field effects on Block during amalgamation remain unclear. In this study, we outline sequence stratigraphic framework Ordovician succession central-upper analyze provenance records sandstone compositions, distributions, detritus zircon U-Pb dating. The is subdivided into six third-order sequences, which were deposited mainly a carbonate platform with restricted sediments Tremadocian to Floian stages, mixed terrigenous-carbonate deposits mid- late open circulation Dapingian middle Katian stages. These sequences show experienced syn-tectonic deformation northeast-trending long-wavelength uplift depression alternatively depocenter shifting from east mid-Floian stages southwest Hirnantian Provenance data indicate that was northern India Kangdian paleohighland South China Block. Incorporating depositional variations, propose retroarc foreland basin developed response final suturing between East at Sanya suture zone. thus involved global tectonics supercontinental cycle Ordovician.
